At Rushmoor School we aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through positions of responsibility, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHCE lessons and assemblies to develop confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society.
We teach PSHCE in a variety of ways: as a discrete subject, via assemblies and through other subjects such as RE, History, Geography, Literacy, Maths and Science, as well as through outdoor educational visits, community work and activities.
We take great pride in the quality of our Pastoral Care. PSHCE lessons are an essential part of this care and are designed to help pupils to become active citizens who can make healthy and informed choices. Pupils follow a programme that has been devised to meet the needs of our pupils. PSHCE is also a time for pupils and staff to establish solid relationships based on mutual understanding and respect for the views of others.
Our PSHCE syllabus contains lessons on Citizenship, Social and Emotional Learning, Sex and Relationships Education, Drugs Education, Careers Education and Economic Well-being Education.
There is a full careers programme, starting at the upper end of the Middle Years and continuing through to the end of Year 13. This includes visiting speakers.
