Every day is Sports Day at Rushmoor!

Here at Rushmoor we are proud to be able to offer an all round education focusing on the pupils ability to achieve and enjoy at all levels. Within Physical Education I am proud to be a part of the progressive attitude of the School, trying new things, attempting to tap into the vigour and enthusiasm of our pupils. As the Head of Physical Education it is my responsibility to offer our students as much diversity as possible and we have the facilities available to us for varied activities, and we will make the most of them.

Already this Term we have a full rugby fixture list from Year 11 all the way down to Year 4, Our games lessons are diverse and fun, focusing on the learning of core skills as well as rugby tactics and drills, this is aimed at all abilities of students trying to harness the enthusiasm and passion that I have for the sport.

Within Physical Education lessons we offer traditional sports such as Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, Gymnastics as well as a taste of more minority sports like Handball, Softball, Dodge-ball, and with the introduction of the new Rushmoor Fitness Suite we are able to teach a wider range of fitness activities. These lessons all focus upon key skill performance indicators but also look into the officiating side of the sports. The knowledge in these non playing areas can assist pupils in GCSE Physical Education as the pupils can use the ability to officiate to contribute towards their overall grade.

As a practitioner of Physical Education I understand that not every student has an affinity for the intricate skills of certain sports, which is why we look at assessing students in rules and regulations as well as performing skills. I see every student as 'potential waiting to be fulfilled', be it in playing, leading, coaching or refereeing. I want the students to have more knowledge of their assessment so instead of finding out their grade at the end of a term, the students are well aware of where they are, how they are progressing, and where they need to be.

The enthusiasm of our students is one of our greatest assets, already so early into the Term we are offering more than 13 extracurricular sports clubs from cross-county to rowing which are proving popular with the students and we have more to come!  Our extracurricular programme has been developed with the input of our students and I am looking into trips to have specialist taster sessions in sports we can't offer but our pupils are interested in such as skiing and wake-boarding.

We at Rushmoor believe in education for life and physical education will be a large part of this, the knowledge of how their body works along with the skills of teamwork, leadership and development are essential tools to help create well rounded knowledgeable students. For all our pupils at Rushmoor, every day is sports day.
